Shimenya Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at Shimenya of the West Entrance of the Zhen’an County Town, Shaanxi Province. It was named by Ding Peizhen et al., in 1989.
Lithology and Thickness
Limestone. Grey thick-bedded and massive micrites, with the corals being locally stratified in their occurrence. Thickness is 1416 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Conformable contact with the bioclastic limestone of the underlying Sanlichong Fm, with no distinct lithostratigraphic salient features being able to be used to differentiate them from one another.
Upper contact
Conformable contact with the psammitic bioclastic limestone of the overlying Yazi Fm, with no distinct lithostratigraphic salient features being able to be used to differentiate them from one another.
Regional extent
Distributed in the area of the West Entrance of the Zhenan County Town, Shaanxi Province.

Yields such key fossils as Fusulinids and corals, among which the Fusulinid fossils are subdivisible into the lower Eoparafusulina-Pseudofusulina assemblage zone and the upper Pamirina-Biwaella acme zone, with the Corals being assigned to the Anfractophyllum-Paraduplophyllum assemblage zone
